Day 1: Arrival & Colombo’s Modernist Trail

Morning/Afternoon: Transfer from the airport to Colombo. Begin the architectural tour with a visit to No. 11, Geoffrey Bawa’s private residence.

Afternoon: Enjoy lunch and a tour at The Gallery Cafe (located in Bawa’s former office). Later, visit the delicate, water-surrounded Seema Malaka temple. Conclude with a quick tour of Independence Square and the colonial architecture of the Colombo Fort area before heading to your boutique accommodation.

Sigiriya Rock Fort

Day 2: Kandalama & The Lion Rock

Morning: Depart for Sigiriya. En route, stop to admire Heritance Kandalama, Bawa’s famous hotel built into a rock face overlooking a vast ancient reservoir.

Evening: Check-in near Sigiriya. Ascend the monumental Sigiriya Lion Rock Fortress to witness the sunset and the surrounding views.

Day 3: Ancient Temples to the Hill Capital

Morning: Drive toward Kandy, stopping to explore the Dambulla Cave Temples, a magnificent complex filled with centuries of Buddhist art.

Evening: Check-in at your Kandy hotel. Visit the sacred Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and attend the evening rituals. Afterwards, experience a traditional Kandyan cultural dance performance.

Day 4: Heritage & Southern Safari

Morning: Following an early breakfast, travel south toward Udawalawe. Stop in Gampola to visit three of its ancient and historically rich temples.

Afternoon/Evening: Check-in to your safari camp. At 2:45 PM, embark on a private half-day jeep safari into Udawalawe National Park for elephant and wildlife spotting. Dinner is followed by a possible complimentary night walk (subject to park clearance).

Day 5: Elephants, Forts, and the Bawa Coast

Morning: Visit the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home before departing for Bentota.

En Route Stop (Galle): Stop in Galle to explore the historic Dutch Galle Fort, visit the Bawa-designed Jetwing Lighthouse Hotel, and tour the University of Ruhunu, one of Bawa’s later masterpieces. Enjoy lunch within the Fort’s atmospheric streets.

Day 6: Bawa's Private Sanctuaries

Morning: Enjoy a relaxed morning at your leisure by the beach or pool.

Afternoon:The architectural focus returns with visits to two iconic gardens: Lunuganga Estate (Bawa’s personal country home and ultimate design laboratory) and The Brief Garden (Bevis Bawa’s stunning property). Enjoy tea at one of the gardens.

Day 7: Departure

Morning: Check out and proceed to Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) for your departure flight.

Optional: A final city tour of Colombo can be arranged before your airport drop-off, depending on your flight schedule.

The hotels, tours, add-ons, and chauffeurs who are part of this programme are carefully vetted, so that you enjoy the highest quality standards and enjoy your tour with peace of mind. At any given point of the tour you will always be within reach of your chauffeur, either physically or via phone (e.g: when you are out exploring on your own), for any assistance.

Sri Lanka is a nation where religion and culture occupy an important place in the day-to-day lives of the local people. It is important to be aware of the customs and practices that are particular to the location you are visiting, so here are a few general tips to keep in mind during your travels. Your chauffeur will assist you with more detailed information.

  • If you plan on visiting any temples, ancient or current, you should wear clothing that covers your body from your shoulders down to your knees. Head coverings such as caps or helmets should be removed and shoes must be taken off at the entrance. White coloured clothing is generally a good choice to go with here.
  • Some religious places do not allow photography or videography without prior permission and some may not allow it at all. Refer to signage or ask your chauffeur guide about the policy or protocol. Don’t try to photograph or take videos without permission.
  • If you have any tattoos associated with Buddhism, Hinduism or Islamism, it’s best that you cover them completely in public places.
  • Smoking is prohibited in indoor public places, workplaces and on public transport.

  • Meals:Half-Board (Breakfast and Dinner) is provided in Colombo, Habarana, and Udawalawe. A Breakfast-only plan is provided in Kandy and Bentota.
  • Transportation: Travel in an air-conditioned vehicle (van/car) for the duration of the tour, complete with a professional English-speaking Chauffeur, including all required airport transfers.
  • Activities & Fees: Entrance costs for all excursions, activities, and sites specifically listed within the 7-day itinerary.
  • Safari Arrangement: A dedicated private jeep, entry permits, and government tracker fees for the mentioned half-day safari in Udawalawe National Park.
  • Local Charges: All hotel service charges and current Sri Lankan government taxes.
