Nestled amidst lush, rolling hills, Kandy is the guardian of the island’s most revered relic.

Afternoon: Upon arrival and check-in, take some time to relax before heading to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa). Located within the royal palace complex, this golden-roofed temple houses the sacred tooth of the Buddha. You will have the opportunity to witness the Thevava—the daily ritual and drum-heavy ceremony held in honor of the relic. The temple’s serene atmosphere, intricate wood carvings, and ornate architecture offer a deeply captivating experience.

Evening: Immerse yourself in the vibrant energy of the city. Take a leisurely stroll around the Kandy Lake (Bogambara Lake) or wander through the bustling local markets filled with spices and handicrafts. As you ascend, the air becomes crisp and the scenery transforms into a sea of emerald-green tea bushes, punctuated by silver waterfalls and rolling hills that disappear into the mist.

Afternoon: Upon arrival, check into a charming estate villa, often a converted colonial-era residence that retains the elegance of a bygone era. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure. You may choose to take a peaceful walk through the surrounding tea gardens, watching the tea pluckers at work, or simply find a quiet spot on the veranda to breathe in the fresh, cool mountain air.

Unlike many falls viewed only from a distance, a trek to the upper falls allows you to stand at the very brink of the cascade. Here, you can take a refreshing dip in a series of natural rock pools that act as “infinity pools” at the edge of the cliff, offering spectacular views of the plains stretching out below.

Afternoon: For those interested in the history of Ceylon Tea, an optional visit to Lipton’s Seat is a must. Travel through the lush Dambatenne Tea Estate to reach the lookout where the tea mogul Sir Thomas Lipton once surveyed his vast empire. On a clear day, the view from this summit is unparalleled, encompassing tea plantations, emerald hills, and distant reservoirs in a 360-degree panorama.

The landscape shifts dramatically from tea-covered mountains to scrub jungle and lagoons as you reach the park’s borders.

Afternoon: Upon arrival, check into your comfortable jungle chalet. In the mid-afternoon, board a private 4×4 Jeep for an exhilarating safari through the park’s diverse terrain. Yala is world-renowned for its high density of leopards, but the wild is unpredictable; keep your eyes peeled for elephants, sloth bears, spotted deer, and crocodiles sunning themselves on the banks of the reservoirs. The park is also an ornithologist’s dream, home to a diverse array of endemic and migratory birdlife.

Evening: As the golden hour fades and the sun sets over the vast, untamed wilderness, return to your lodge. Enjoy a delightful dinner and a night spent amidst nature’s embrace, falling asleep to the distant calls of the wild.
